About the collaborative collage

This sequence was constructed during a seven day exhibition in September 2011 at the Fleetstreet Theater in Hamburg, Germany. The pieces were added by about 300 people from all over the world wide web and from within the theatre.

GCollage takes search terms and retrieves random images from Google Image Search based on that search query. The images are then cut into a random shape and the users can arrange a selected slice on a virtual canvas. Each slice including it's date and position is preserved for later playback.

At the end of the exhibition, the sequence was used for a concert of the band "The Building". The entire stage including the band members were completely coloured in white and were acting as a living canvas while triggering the slices with their instruments.
